Nigerian customs service warehouse in Ikeja Lagos lost items worth billions of naira due to an unexpected fire outbreak caused by an electrical fault. A source reports that the fire outbreak started from a computer that wasn’t properly switched off in a classroom located on the top floor of the warehouse meant for training officers.
According to the source, the burning computer sank the decking into the warehouse thereby setting ablaze most of the confiscated items seized by customs worth billions of naira. The fire started at 11pm on Friday night April 22nd and burnt into the next day April 23rd.
Fire service operators were at the scene but couldn’t control the situation due to inadequate supply of water.
Fortunately, all items that would have escalated the fire such as clothes, bags of rice, gallons of groundnut oil, soap and some many other items, had earlier been moved to IDPs within the last week.
